Féile Dúthalla 2008 sends Christmas Greetings to all its supporters and patrons and wish you a very happy and hasslefree 2009. The final statement of accounts will be posted in early January on this website and anyone wishing to get involved for another Féile in 2009 and beyond are kindly invited to submit their ideas as soon as possible. There are still a number of programmes remaining and are available at euro 10 per copy plus postage and packaging worldwide and we have four t-shirts in size large at Euro 10 plus p&p.

Féile Dúthalla 2008 - Souvenir Programme - Limited Number of Copies Remaining

The Féile Souvenir Programme was published a few weeks before the Féile an contains information on the organization of the feile, the budget, financial account, several very interesting articles written by some of those who were involved with the Talks/Music Series and there are also several rare photographs in the magazine. A limited number of copies are still available at the price of €10 per copy plus postage and packaging worldwide. A digital version in PDF is also available on request for the same price.

Féile Dúthalla 2008 Goes International

The final event of Féile Dúthalla 2008 will take place on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 and will be held in Herxheim, Pfalz, Germany. Newmarket flute player, Paudy Scully & family will host an afternoon and evening of traditional Irish music, song and dance and several local musicians and pupils of Paudy will attend the function. A number of musicians from Ireland and France are also heading for the session and it is destined to be a day to remember and a very fitting end to a wonderful year long festival.

Féile Dúthalla 2008 - A Brief Report on Events during Féile Week

The Féile was officially opened by American broadcaster, the Virginian Kevin Donleavy who gave a great talk on some people from Cork and the local area who emigrated to Virginia in the early days of the colony. It was followed by a great session of music and Féile Week was destined to success. News came late in the proceedings that a Féile Dúthalla event had been organised in Germany and this session will take place on Saturday, December 6th in Herxheim, Germany and this session will conclude the events for this year.

Historical Walking Tour of Kanturk - Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

On Saturday, November 22nd at 11 o'clock, former Labour Senator, William P. Cashin will conduct a historical walking tour of the town of Kanturk. Interested parties are asked to meet at the car park at the Church of the Immaculate Conception before 11 o'clock and the tour will take approximately two hours. It will finish at the Trades Union Hall in Strand Street at around 13.00 where light refreshments will be served. There William P.will give a short talk on the Labour Movement in the Duhallow Area and the significance of the Trades Union Hall in History.

Féile Week Programme

The Féile Week Programme is now confirmed and will go ahead as scheduled from November 17th until November 24th. The full programme can be seen by opening the PDF file attachment to this storybody. There is the possibility that more events will take place in addition to the schedule given and impromptu sessions may also occur. Talk Series

The popularity of the Talks/Music Series has meant that the Series was revised on a number of occasions. Please see the attached PDF file of the revised series from September to the end of the series on November 23rd. Many thanks to all those who have supported and attended the sessions throughout the year. Special word of thanks to all the guest speakers and musicians who conducted the sessions and it is safe to say that every night was very enjoyable and a resounding success.

Schools Workshop Programme

In mid-February 2008, letters were sent to thirty schools in the area, twentysix primary and four second level, advising them that it was the intention of Féile Dúthalla 2008 to involve as many young people as possible in the Féile and that a number of musicians had offered their services to provide music workshops in the various schools. Each school was requested to confirm if they were interested in the scheme and reply soonest in the envlope provided. Seven schools responded initially and five schools out of that seven followed up. An extra session has been added to the Talks/Music Series on Sunday, November 09th. Dr. Ruan O'Donnell of Limerick Univeristy will give a talk on Sarah Curran and Robert Emmett. Full details of the days event will be posted shortly via the usual channels.
