Englands Last Irish Plantation - July 14th

Dónal Ó Siodacháin, poet and author returns to Féile Dúthalla for this years series and will deliver a talk titled
Kingwilliamstown - Englands Last Irish Plantation
at the Trades Union Hall in Strand Street, Kanturk on Wednesday July 14th at 20.30.
Dónal Ó Siodhacháin was born and reared at Doonasleen in the heart of Sliabh Luachra.
Amongst other things he is:- a qualified shipbuilder; served for many years on the Árd
Comhairle of Sinn Féin; a community activist; a paralegal and a poet, writer & historian
of great ability. Works of poetry by the author include The Long Finger, Images,
Cavehill Vision, Lovely it was in Doonasleen & The Torchbearer. His prose works
includes Sliabh Luachra, The People, The Place and its Music. He has also edited many
poetry & prose works including The Road to Song, The Poems of Edward Walsh, The
Poems of Ned Buckley, The Deserted Village, Gods of the Twilight, Journal of a Lady
of Fashion and many more. He has edited histories titled The Great Retreat and From
Beara to Breifne. He launched a collection of poetry titled “A Nice Kind of Madness” , - a
celebratuion of traditional musicians - during Féile Week of Féile Dúthalla 2008 on November 20th at the C.Y.M.S. Hall in Main Street, Newmarket, Co. Cork.
