Talks/Music Series Grows

Feile Duthalla

Ethnomusicologist, Matt Crannitch has pledged his support for
the Féile and will give a lecture in the Trades Union Hall,
Kanturk on Wednesday, September 17th at 20.30. The title of his
talk is The Musical Heartbeat of Sliabh Luachra and Matt will
be joined on the night by guest musicians. No stranger to
Duhallow, playing and competing in several Féiles in the area in
the 1950's & 60's, he has ancestral links with Duhallow and will
also feature with the celebrated accordion player Jackie Daly at
the Gala Commemorative Concert in the Glen Theatre on
Friday, November 21st . Several other musicians will also
perform at that event. The Talks/Music Series has grown
considerably since its inception with three extra sessions being
added to the original schedule. Two talks on D.D. Sheehan, one
by his grandson, Niall Ó Siocháin, the other by local historian
John Dillon, who launched his book on Sheehan on July 23rd in
the Trades Union Hall, Kanturk, were memorable sessions and
large attendances bear testimony to that.
